 The event was an engaging, pertinent and inspiring, tackling one of the biggest challenges we are facing in the UK today: gang violence. It is a forum for discussion around these challenges, and more importantly about what solutions can be offered through peace tactics.

Speakers included:
  • Reverend Pastor Mimi Asher, whose work with young people involved steering them away from gang violence in South London;
  • Richard Outram, who set up the Pledge to Peace in Oldham making it the first town in the UK to sign up
  •  Bruce Carlton-Smith who is promoting boxing as a sport and not an option of violence

All the speakers took part in an engaging panel Q&A session in the second part of the afternoon.
We have coupled engaging discussions and speakers with entertaining performances throughout the day which included singer Katie Rose performing a song she wrote in response to knife crime in London and the well known poet Mr Gee!

We will also be screening the first UK showing of The Prem Rawat Foundation film, Peace is Inevitable, which focuses on the stories of gangs in Ecuador who adopt peace strategies.

The Evening Standard reported last week that well known international street artist Ben Eine, in response to London’s recent knife crime epidemic, has partnered with the global peace ambassador Prem Rawat to create a mural ‘‘Peace is Possible’ ’in Shoreditch, Prem Rawat addressed knife crime in Lambeth on 10thJune at an event with Pastor Lorraine Jones, whose son, Dwayne, was stabbed to death in Brixton in 2014. Our vision is that the Waves of Change forum, which is part of The Festival of Peace Croydon, will continue this topical exploration of how peace education can help address such a vital and challenging issue.
